New Idea Hit and Run

Today's Blog Tour Stops:

Amanda Bonilla
K.M. Weiland

How is everyone doing this fine Monday morning? I'm...not so hot LOL My darling son was sick all week last week and decided to share with Momma so I'm feeling a bit run over. Which means instead of doing something productive, I've been spending a lot of time staring off into space.

What happens when a writer stares into space for too long?

Yep, MORE STORY IDEAS!!!

Now, don't get me wrong...I love me some story ideas. But I've got two non-fiction proposals to finish by the end of the month, a novel WIP already in progress (well, two actually, but one is sort of close to getting finished) and a whole file full of ideas already.

But I really like this one :D However, it's just going to have to wait. Notes have been taken, a file has been created, but *le sigh* I won't be able to work on it for at least a few months.

What do you do when an awesome idea that you just totally love presents itself while you are in the midst of other projects?

Don't forget to stop by Amanda and Katie's today and leave a comment! The more stops you hit, the more entries you get for that super awesome Grand Prize Basket which I swear on the breath in my poor aching lungs I will get up later today :D

Ahh, yes, I have this problem often. Sleep is the culprit most of the time for my new novel ideas and they get developed while staring off in space. Most of those ideas I'll just make notes of and when I'm ready to write I pick the one I really want to use at that moment but sometimes I'll start even when I'm in the middle of other projects.

I have one of those I came up with some time in fall last year and I decided that it will be my March novel. Others are aching to be started but I'm making them wait.

I create files for new ideas. That way when I need a break from my wip (or it's out with critters and beta readers) I've got something to do.

There have been moments when I'm tempted to work on something else, but that isn't usually the case. I'm usually in love with my project at hand and can't imagine abandoning it for even a short time.

When a new ideas strike, I usually open a new doc in Scrivener and through the idea in there, even write out the beginning middle and end, letting out a little of the "write me!!!" pressure.

Feel better!

I get story ideas at the worst times.

But now I've learned to file them away for those dry spells I get.

I tend to get ideas when I'm falling asleep... or they wake me up. LOL. I write them down in a word doc and file them away. I do have a few tucked away, but I bet once I'm done with my current project, a new one will shout at me and take over those ones. :)

HA! That is a really great way to describe those sneaky new ideas. Hit and run. Yes. I love when they come and I can jot them down and move away. But the demanding ones...whoo...those are some mothers to let go! Good luck with your proposals and hope you feel better!

I love new ideas, but I also know that I have to focus on what I'm doing, or I'll get spread too thin ("like butter over too much bread"). I try to write a one page synopsis of my idea, and then I can look at it later and decide whether it's a novel, short story, or just not that good at second glance.
