Obsession Confession....

I am addicted to books - as in SERIOUSLY addicted. Obsessed. When I'm in the middle of a good book, nothing else gets done. No housework, no writing, no sleeping...it really borders on the ridiculous, but I just can't help it.

I just sent my kindergartener to school with a $20 bill...I'm terrified it won't make it there, but this week is his school Book Fair and I want him to be able to buy anything his little heart desires (though, looking over the prices, it may not be much, even with $20).

Oh my - nostalgic visions of my own school book fairs dancing in my head.... *happy sigh*

I had to refrain from sending the whole $60 I had in my wallet. He gets to go buy BOOKS. I'm all giddy just thinking about it. I could really blow entire paychecks on books. Sure, I'd feel guilty afterward, but the feeling would be muted by the absolute euphoria I experience when I'm eyeball-deep in an awesome story.

In fact, I'm in the middle of reading a book now...which is why this post is later than usual and wasn't set up ahead of time as is normally the case - I was reading all weekend :D

So, how about you? Are there any other crazy, book junkies out there? Can you get sucked into a good book and still function, or does the world shut down as you devour your latest treat?

Please tell me I'm not alone.... :D

I'm a major book junkie. I've had to curtail the amount of books I buy my kids when they come home with the lastest Scholastic Book order. And it was happy dance time when my 4th grader's pile included the teen flyer.

I will admit how frustrated I am with the number of great books coming out. I still want to reread the other ones on my bookshelves. That's why I buy them in the first place. I really have to stop reading book reviews. Naw. Maybe not! :D

Cute picture!

I used to have this problem that is not really a problem a lot more when I was younger. I still read every day but with work, parenting and writing, I just don't have the time to stay up all night reading anymore.

It is fun when it happens though.

I have a Kindle and it's too easy to download books a a whim, but much cheaper.

You're not alone. I become so rude when I'm reading a good book. I can't even hear when someones asks me questions or tugs on my sleeve. It's like a drug!

Um...yep. It's nearly impossible to pull myself out of a good book, thank goodness I read fairly fast. I've been known to stay up until 3am reading (not a smart idea when the alarm goes off at 6am, and yet, it happens at least once every few weeks). Ebooks make it even easier, since I always have a good book *with me*...I can't decide if that's actually a good thing or bad since it's so hard to pull myself away. ;-)

You're not alone...

Not only am I a book junkie, but I'm a character junkie as well. When the books is done and I have to say goodbye to characters I've grown to love, I feel as depressed as if I were suffering an actual break-up.

I'm definitely a book junkie. I've managed to get my paws on some really great books recently so writing has fallen to the wayside a bit. (I'm not happy with myself about this, trust me.) You are not alone! We should all go book shopping together.

I remember my elementary book fairs -- and how many books $20 could buy!

Non functioning book junkie here. I stayed up until 2 a.m. on Friday finishing The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters because I knew if I didn't my house wouldn't get cleaned the next day and we had some people coming to look at it to see if they wanted to buy it.

My poor boyfriend has given up on getting me to turn out the light and go to sleep when I'm in the midst of a good read.

I'm a major book junkie, too. I've literally ran out of places to keep all the books I buy. And I'm like Lydia, when I'm in the middle of a good book, I don't notice anything else!

Love them. The only ones I keep around in paper form are cookbooks -- so much fun to browse. But yeah, my idea of a great night out includes a couple hours at a bookstore.

Ohhh, yes, I really get sucked in! I need to go finish one right now, actually!

I get so involved that I have to take a break from reading once in a while so I don't get divorced.

Yeah I could blow my whole paycheck on books, too, and I have been known to keep reading right through preparing dinner (only time I have to put the book down is when I drain the spaghetti). But I'm a cheapskate - I won't buy a book unless I absolutely can't get it from the library. If it's good enough to read twice, then I'll buy it.

So what was this great book you were reading?

Hi, my name is Mel. I'm a book addict. (Hi Mel) For me it started when I was 8 or maybe 9 years old. :D

Sorry couldn't help it. I love, love, love books and there are nights I don't sleep until I'm done with the book. Nothing else gets done either. Then I'm a flurry of movement trying to catch up on all I neglected. :D You are not alone!

You are NOT alone. I still remember the pulse of excitement I had when The Kiddo brought home her first book fair brochure. And yes, I let her buy waaaay too many books.

Because books are like Brussels sprouts. They are good for you. :p

you need to only walk into my place to see the answer to that question. Every surface is covered with books.

Me too! One of the best things about being a teacher is being able to collect books for my job. Book fairs and book clubs are 2 of my favourite things!!! :)

I don't get to read as much as I would like to these days, but when I have a good book in hand I don't want to do anything else.

Oh, and I'm likely to get very crabby if I'm forced to stop to eat, clean, or go to the bathroom. I've been known to stay up all night until I finished the book.

I am looking forward to retirement so I can read as much as I want and won't have to worry about a single other soul!

I've forbidden myself to read any more books, cos other wise, I can't stop... not just stop reading them, but stop replaying the story in my head for the next 3 days (longer if I read more than one book)... then NOTHING gets done. It's so sad.

I WANT BOOKS!! waaaah...

Oh, man, it's definitely intervention time for me. My books are spilling across tables, falling in stacks from my desk, squeezed in so tightly on the bookshelves that you can't even wiggle some of them free to read them again. Sigh. But I wouldn't have it any other way :D
