Songstone by Lena Goldfinch - Spotlight and GIVEAWAY!

SPOTLIGHT!!

My fellow Scene 13er, Lena Goldfinch, has a new book out! Here are all the deets:

About the Book

Kita can meld song into stone. In a world with no written word, storytelling—the ability to meld (or magically impress) song into stone—is greatly honored. The village honors her master as their medicine man, but Kita knows he's secretly a sorcerer who practices black magic using drops of her blood. She fears he’ll use her beautiful gift for a killing spell, so she conceals it from him. Each day, his magic tightens around her neck like a rope. His spells blind the villagers, so they can’t see him for what he really is.

Not that anyone would want to help her. She was found in the forest as a baby and would have died if a village girl hadn't brought her home. But the villagers saw Kita's unusual coloring and decided she belonged to the mysterious tribe who lives in the forests of the volcano, a people feared for their mystical powers. So they fear her too. Now seventeen, she can barely admit her deepest longing: to know who she really is and where she belongs.

Then Pono, a young journeyman, arrives from the other side of the island. He's come to fulfill a pact between their villages: to escort a storyteller back to his village—a storyteller who'll be chosen at the great assembly. Finally, in Pono, Kita sees her one slim chance at freedom and she'll risk her life to take it.

A dark, twisty tale of sorcery, tummy-tingling romance, and adventure, inspired by the folklore of New Zealand's Māori people.

Leo reluctantly agrees to help by marrying Cilla’s older sister but the more time he spends with Cilla, the more determined Leo is to steal her stubborn bandit’s heart. However, Cilla is just as determined to keep her heart to herself. Then innocent people are murdered, and the sheriff blames Blood Blade. Bridget Zinn's POISON

This beautiful lady succumbed to cancer before she could see her dream realized - her book POISON released yesterday. Since she isn't able to share her novel, let's spread the word for her :) For more info on Bridget Zinn and her book, you can visit her website.

About the book:

Sixteen-year-old Kyra, a highly-skilled potions master, is the only one who knows her kingdom is on the verge of destruction—which means she's the only one who can save it. Faced with no other choice, Kyra decides to do what she does best: poison the kingdom's future ruler, who also happens to be her former best friend.

But, for the first time ever, her poisoned dart…misses.

Now a fugitive instead of a hero, Kyra is caught in a game of hide-and-seek with the king's army and her potioner ex-boyfriend, Hal. At least she's not alone. She's armed with her vital potions, a too-cute pig, and Fred, the charming adventurer she can't stop thinking about. Kyra is determined to get herself a second chance (at murder), but will she be able to find and defeat the princess before Hal and the army find her?

Kyra is not your typical murderer, and she's certainly no damsel-in-distress—she's the lovable and quick-witted hero of this romantic novel that has all the right ingredients to make teen girls swoon.

Happy Book Birthday to TRANSCEND and Christine Fonseca!!

I am thrilled to celebrate the release of Transcend by my dear friend Christine Fonseca. This book is different than any other I've read for a while. It's dark and poetic and just masterfully done. Here's the blurb and the gorgeous cover:

All seventeen-year-old composer Ien Montgomery desires is an escape from his family's rigid expectations for his life; someone to inspire his music. When he meets a beautiful violin-prodigy, Kiera McDougal, his life music takes on new life. With her, he imagines a future outside of his parents’ control. That is, until a horrible accident tears them apart.

Sent to die in a sanatorium, Ien’s obsession for Kiera grows unbearable. Tortured by thoughts he can’t escape and the truth of his monstrous disfigurement, he flees, desperate to exact revenge on the people that ruined his life – his parents. But, vengeance is empty. Betrayed by those closest to him, Ien discovers that the price for his happiness may be his sanity.

Set amidst the landscape of New York's Gilded Age, and inspired by Phantom of the Opera, TRANSCEND exposes the fine line between love and madness.

The early reviews on this book are AMAZING (and I whole-heartedly agree with them!) Christine's tour kicks off next week, but you can get Transcend on Amazon and B&N (the print versions aren't showing up yet but should be there any minute now) :)

Congrats Christine!!!!

Cole Gibsen's BREATHLESS

Okay - I was so excited for today because I *thought* it was the book birthday of the awesome book BREATHLESS by my sweet friend Cole Gibsen. And I just realized the book released on the 21st. :(

So, this is a tad late, but I absolutely couldn't let it pass by without a huge shout out :) Here is all the juicy info:

BREATHLESS (Crescent Moon Press March 21 2012)

Obituary-reading emo girl Edith Small is broken - the end result of forcing herself inside a mold that doesn't fit. All she wants is to conform to her strict sergeant stepfather's rules long enough to make it to graduation day. But a boat accident threatens to unravel the life Edith has worked so hard to keep.

After waking up in a hospital with a lacerated shoulder, Edith fakes amnesia. Because admitting she received her injuries from a blue-haired girl who breathes underwater is all the reason Sir needs to send Edith on the first bus to military school. Safe at home, Edith struggles to put the nightmare behind her.

But the mysterious creatures that live in the ocean aren't about to let her forget. After meeting Bastin - a strange boy with silver hair and black eyes - on a secluded dock, Edith learns about the war raging undersea to end human existence. A war that Edith, unwittingly, has become the key to winning.

In a world where death is an ever-present shadow and motives are as dark as the bottom of the ocean, Edith must decide if her life is worth risking for a love that can't survive past the shore.

March has been a very busy month for Cole as her first novel, Katana, also released this month. If you haven't had the pleasure of meeting Cole yet, definitely check her out.

You can pick up Breathless at Amazon, B&N, BAM, or wherever you enjoy buying books :)

CONGRATS COLE!!!!!

Christine Fonseca's Dies Irae Release Day!!

Today I want to wish a HUGE Happy Book Birthday to my dear friend Christine Fonseca - Congrats Christine!!!

Today kicks off the launch of her blog tour for her novella, DIES IRAE, a prequel to her Requiem series (the first novel, LACRIMOSA, will be out in March).

If you haven't yet heard of this book, here's a little teaser along with its gorgeous cover:

Some sacrifices should never be made—even for love.

Mikayel lives by one rule—obey the orders of the angelic Council at all costs. That is, until he and his friends, Azza and Demi, are sent to Earth. Assigned as Watchers while they await their decision of which angelic order to serve, the three assume the bodies of teenagers and experience life as human.

The sensations are overwhelming as the angels experience a host of human emotions—rage, terror, love—and come ever closer to breaking one of the unbreakable rules—never fall in love.

But being human isn’t the only problem facing the three angels. Unbeknownst to the Council, demonic activity is on the rise, threatening to break a tenuous peace that has existed for a millennia; a peace Azza seems bent on destroying.

Caught in a struggle for power with unseen demonic forces and Azza, and fighting against his rising emotional attachment to Demi, Mikayel must now decide how much he is willing to sacrifice for his new found love—a decision that could reignite an ancient war and will threaten the only thing that matters to the angels, the survival of humanity.

You can check out the awesome book trailer HERE.

We've got a fun guest post today with a little Q&A with the characters from DIES IRAE.

Take it away guys!

Getting to Know the Angels of DIES IRAE

I’m so excited to start my blog tour for DIES IRAE with my NF buddy, my CP, and my BFF, Michelle. Michelle asked me to introduce you to the main characters of DIES IRAE. So, the best way to do that I think… An interview.

So, I asked Mikayel, Azzaziel, and Demetra to join me today and talk with all of you. Without further adieu, I bring you the angels of DIES IRAE:

Mikayel: Oh please, you make us sound so…
Azzaziel: Ridiculous; the word you’re looking for is ridiculous.
Demetra: I was thinking old.
Christine: Whatever guys. You know what I meant. I’m just happy you’re all here for our readers. Now, to get started, let’s have each of you tell everyone a little bit about yourselves. Mikayel?
Azzaziel (whispering to Demetra): Told ya he’d go first.
Demetra (whispering to Azzaziel): Shh. Don’t be so rude.
Mikayel (Clearing his throat): Thanks Christine. I’m Mikayel and I’m sort of the leader of the group.
(Azzaziel coughs loudly)
Mikayel: What? I am. Anyway, I’m the reason we were assigned as Watchers. And we won’t leave until I’m ready. (smiles smugly at the others)
Christine: Thanks Mikayel. Azzaziel, you’re up.
Azzaziel: First off, call me Azza. You know I hate it when people address me by my full name. Let’s see. I guess I would say that I’m Mikayel’s best and most loyal friend. Where he goes, I go. Which isn’t always a good thing.
Christine (laughs): Thanks Azza. Demetra, tell us a little about you.
Demetra: Well, I’m Demetra, Demi for short. Like Azza, I am loyal to Mikayel. I’m sort of like the voice of reason with these two.
Christine: Isn’t that the truth!
Demi: Yep. And trust me, it’s a constant battle to keep them in line.
(Mikayel and Azza laugh)
Christine: Tell me more about that.
Demi: The boys are both tricksters, constantly trying to pull one over on me. It’s kind of a nightmare assignment really.
Christine: Ha! I bet. Okay, we’re almost out of time. Last question. Describe the other angels in one word. Let’s start with you, Azza.
Azza: Easy. Mikayel is confused. And Demi is a hard-nose.
Mikayel: Confused? I don’t think so!
Christine: What are your words Mikayel?
Mikayel: For Azza, stubborn. And for Demi…beautiful.
Azza: I think I’m going to be ill.
Christine: Demi?
Demi: Mikayel is strong and Azza, he’s reckless.
Azza: I think we can see where everyone’s loyalties are now. Just remember that I met Mikayel first. We’ve been friends a lot longer than the two of you.
Demi: Touchy, touchy.
Mikayel: Guys, knock it off.
Christine: Is it always like this with you three?
Mikayel, Azza and Demi (together): Yes. Always.
Christine: Well, I think that is it for now, then. Thanks for stopping by and introducing yourselves.

And there you have it—my brief, but, um…interesting (I hope) interview with the angels of DIES IRAE. To find out more about them, and their adventures on earth, be sure to check out DIES IRAE.

Thanks for stopping by Christine!! Here's a little info on the fabulously talented Christine along with info on where to get this amazing book. And keep scrolling for a little teaser on the first novel in the Requiem series. AND head over to the Operation Awesome blog tomorrow for a chance to win TWO COPIES of this awesome novella! CONGRATS AGAIN CHRISTINE!!!

LACRIMOSA

As if casting out demons isn’t hard enough, five-hundred-year-old Nesy has to masquerade as a teenage girl to do it. Nesy is the best of the warrior angels called Sentinals. She never makes mistakes, never hesitates, never gets emotionally involved. Until she meets Aydan.

He is evil incarnate; a fallen angel that feeds off the souls of others. Everything Nesy is supposed to hate. But she can’t, because he’s also the love of her former life as a human girl—a life that ended too soon, tying her to emotions she was never supposed to feel.

Now Nesy must choose between doing her duty—damning Aydan to the fiery depths of hell—or saving him, and condemning herself.

“LACRIMOSA reaches out, grabs readers by the heart, and takes them on an emotional journey from the first page to the last. The last novel you’ll need to read to understand true sacrifice.”

Happy Release Day to Bethany Wiggins and Shifting!!

Today a very dear friend is celebrating the release of her debut novel. I posted about this at Operation Awesome on Saturday (head over there if you haven't yet because I'm giving away a SIGNED COPY - you can enter up through midnight tomorrow) but I just couldn't let this day go by without giving a huge shout out and congrats to Bethany Wiggins and her awesome book Shifting.

I've got something special planned in a couple weeks that you won't want to miss, but for today, I just wanted to wish Bethany all the best and implore all my lovely readers to go buy this book. I love this book, and I'm not just saying that because I'm friends with the author :D

This book has it all for me: weird happenings, cool (and creepy) mythology (made even creepier by the fact that it is based on legends about the area where I lived at the time...and there were plenty of local stories about the stuff in this book...and yeah...I'd get freaked out A LOT after talking to Bethany lol), romance, and mystery, and really really bad guys, and an awesome MC who may just be one of my favorites EVER.

Seriously, you all need to check this book out :) Here is the Amazon blurb:

After bouncing from foster home to foster home, Magdalene Mae is transferred to what should be her last foster home in the tiny town of Silver City, New Mexico. Now that she's eighteen and has only a year left in high school, she's determined to stay out of trouble and just be normal. Agreeing to go to the prom with Bridger O'Connell is a good first step. Fitting in has never been her strong suit, but it's not for the reasons most people would expect-it all has to do with the deep secret that she is a shape shifter. But even in her new home danger lurks, waiting in the shadows to pounce. They are the Skinwalkers of Navajo legend, who have traded their souls to become the animal whose skin they wear-and Maggie is their next target.

You can find Bethany at her WEBSITEBLOG, on TWITTER, and on FACEBOOK. And you can buy Shifting HERE  :) Stay tuned for even more fun stuff in a couple weeks ;-)

And CONGRATS Bethany!!!! :)

IT'S POSSESSION TIME!!!

It's finally here!!! Let me join in the fangirl shrieks everywhere and let out a huge SQUEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! for a very sweet friend of mine. Today is the official book birthday of the absolutely fabulous Elana Johnson's debut novel, POSSESSION. I love this book...LOVE it. And am very excited to help spread the love around a little :D

Here is the blurb and gorgeous cover for those of you who haven't seen it yet :)

Vi knows the Rule: Girls don’t walk with boys, and they never even think about kissing them. But no one makes Vi want to break the Rules more than Zenn…and since the Thinkers have chosen him as Vi’s future match, how much trouble can one kiss cause? The Thinkers may have brainwashed the rest of the population, but Vi is determined to think for herself.

But the Thinkers are unusually persuasive, and they’re set on convincing Vi to become one of them….starting by brainwashed Zenn. Vi can’t leave Zenn in the Thinkers’ hands, but she’s wary of joining the rebellion, especially since that means teaming up with Jag. Jag is egotistical, charismatic, and dangerous: everything Zenn’s not. Vi can’t quite trust Jag and can’t quite resist him, but she also can’t give up on Zenn.

This is a game of control or be controlled. And Vi has no choice but to play.

*happy sigh* To celebrate, IT'S GIVEAWAY TIME!!!!

I will, of course, be giving away a copy of this awesome book. BUT this is just too big and too exciting so I have to throw in a little something else. One lucky winner will get not only their very own, shiny copy of POSSESSION, but will also get a "POSSESSION" necklace. (Please forgive me as my camera is on the fritz...I will post a pic as soon as I can) This adorable necklace has a Zen pendant, Violet beads, two silver butterflies, and comes with a "Jag"ged surprise :) (no, unfortunately, not hottie Jag himself) ;-)

To enter, just leave a comment. I'll take entries until Sunday at midnight and will announce the winner on Monday morning. There are more giveaways and POSSESSION awesomeness happening all over the place today! Check out Elana's blog and Christine Fonseca's blog for some good links and if you find any others, feel free to post them here and share them everywhere!

Good luck and CONGRATS ELANA!!!!

In Celebration of Christine Fonseca and 101 Success Secrets for Gifted Students

So, I know we usually do Friday Funnies today. But today we are going to do something a little bit different.

See, I have this amazing friend. The lovely Christine Fonseca. She's incredible - she's a crazy talented writer, an absolute marketing guru, she's determined, stronger than anyone I know, rips my manuscripts up better than the best editor and helps me piece them back together again over and over. She is always there for me through thick and thin.

One of the things that draws us together is the fact that we both write fiction and non-fiction. Christine's novels are awesome - wonderfully emotional, gripping, unique, and I have no doubt they will soon be appearing on shelves around the world.

In non-fiction, Christine is just a rock star. No other word for it. Her first book Emotional Intensity in Gifted Students is making huge waves in the gifted world. Her second book, 101 Success Secrets for Gifted Students is due out May 1st.

But...

It is in so much demand, they are actually shipping it NOW!

Well, we just couldn't let that amazing news go by without a massive shout out :) This book is amazing. It really is. I've had the pleasure of reading it and all I can say is if you have a gifted child in your house, or if you know someone who does, go get this book for them. It is chock full of tips and ideas, many of them from other gifted children, to help these special kids navigate through their often intense worlds.

It's an amazing book from an amazing lady :) Congrats Christine!!!! And happy early release! :D

The Games Begin In Just a Few Short Days!

All right ya'all....we've got 20 days until my book comes out....and we're going to have some fun until the big release :D

In the tabs at the top of my blog, you'll find one for Book Release Games. This page contains all the info you'll need on all the upcoming games leading up to the day of my book release and Blog Tour kick off. The links and specifics of each game will be listed and active the day they begin, but you can find general info about what's coming up now.

Once the Blog Tour gets underway, I'll list links to all the stops on the Tour as well as links to any giveaways that may be occurring. PLUS, I'll have info about how you can enter the huge Grand Prize Giveaway at the end of the Tour.

So...what is the first game, you wonder? Well, my book is a guide book on how to write essays and term papers...those pesky, hair-pulling, unfortunately necessary and required aspect of every single English class in the country. If you are going to school or know someone who is, an essay is in your future, plain and simple. My book is design to make those assignments a little easier, because let's face it, papers can be a pain to write, even for those of us who write for fun!

So we'll have a few games centered around essays and writing with some fun books and swag as prizes.

The first game/contest kicks off this Saturday Jan 1st so don't forget to check back here for details!

In the meantime, I could use a little help. My awesome stepkids got me a Borders gift card for Christmas (do they know their step mama or what!!) Any suggestions on books? I've got a few in mind, but am having a LOT of trouble narrowing them down LOL What was your favorite book this year?
