This is What Happens When a Writer Can't Find Paper...

I used to have a notebook by my bed. Someone moved it last night. I had my pen...but no notebook. So of course inspiration chose the perfect moment to strike - a couple new stanzas for my picture book - and frankly I was too tired to go in search of paper. So I grabbed my pen and used the only available surface around (my furniture was too dark or I really think I would have just written on my dresser...or headboard :D ). I woke up with hands covered in ink.

Do you ever do this? What's the weirdest thing you've ever jotted a note on?

I write notes on my hands all the time - especially when it's something I need to remember (and I know I won't look at whatever scrap of paper I may have had at the time).

I just send myself text messages.

LOL I thought about that Matt, but my phone was across the room and I really didn't want to get out of bed :D That's a great idea though :D

A check. I was standing in line at the checkout counter and an idea popped into my head. All I had to write on was checks in my checkbook. I scribbled on 3. I have no idea what the cashier thought I was doing.

Ah! That's too funny. I have a habit of scribbling on old receipts.

Last year when I was finishing my second novel I was doing so on break between classes and I'd headed off to B&N to do so. (It was a lengthy break.) I was writing the book longhand at that point and was almost done. I just had the epilogue to write. I ran out of paper in the book I was writing in and the only thing available to me was the doily they'd lined the tray with at B&N's cafe when I ordered a pretzel. (It hadn't come in contact with the food at all.) So I wrote out the epilogue on it and folded it up and tucked it into the fancy notebook I'd been writing in.

Funny! I use my phone usually, like Matt. But I remember having to write on a paper towel once. The super absorbent ones make it hard to read afterward, though. ;)

I love the picture. I make myself get out of bed because one too many times I've forgotten what it was I had thought of as I lay in my comfy bed.

I've written on my hands before, on the back of receipts, on napkins, on the paper placemat at a restaurant on vacation, post it notes all over my room, pretty much any sheet of paper I can find. I wrote on the walls in my closet once because I was bored, and no one ever sees my closet. X)

I've written on receipts in my purse or the cardboard flap on Orbit gum cases when I was in a pinch. If you get an idea or phrase, you can't wait to write it down or you might forget!

Not on my hands! But I've written all over other things. My daughter's pre-school papers, napkins, the backs of receipts from my purse... Anything, really.

No! Mostly because it's messy and a bit ticklish, too. Your palm writing is surprisingly neat!
