A Writer's Christmas

So my husband and I were sitting at the table the other day discussing what to get the kids, and each other, for Christmas this year. I usually just get my own presents and pretend I'm all surprised :) but this year I'm making him get me something (aren't I mean? Mwahaha) I told him I already had his present picked out. He said he had no idea what to get me.

I'm confused by this.

Aside from the fact that we've been married almost 10 years, I'm a writer. I'm not that hard to figure out. I'd be giddy over a few spiral notebooks and a new pack of pens. Especially if there was a cute stack of designer PostIts on top. (I heart me some stationary!) Sure, there are some "harder to figure out" gifts I'd really enjoy like a few new computer programs or maybe some new CDs for my playlist.

But really, if you are ever in doubt about what to get a writer, you can resort to the always popular gift card to your local bookstore. I go after new books the way our cat goes after cat nip. Want to make me really happy? Get me a huge gift card to the bookstore and a new bookshelf to put all my shiny new pretties on....and a pile of new stationary 'cause like I said, that stuff is ALWAYS fun :)

What is your ideal Christmas gift? What do you think the perfect writer gift would be?

p.s. thanks for all the "warm" wishes :) The heater is still out (we've dropped a few more degrees so I am REALLY hoping the heater parts come in SOON) but we are really doing okay. It's toasty warm upstairs in the bedrooms with the doors closed and the space heaters going full blast, so we've just been hanging out up there. My real whine is because my laptop is dead until my new charger gets here (hopefully today!) so, since the main computer is downstairs and it's too cold to work down there, I'm not getting anything productive done. Except laundry. But, you know, I'd rather be writing LOL

I think you hit the nail on the head with that one. Anything involving books or writing I go gaga over. Though, I do need new clothes too.

I started taking pics of things I like with my phone and texting them to hubs. I love gift certs! Though I usually end up spending them on other people and not myself.

I love giving/receiving gift baskets. Take a theme and run with it...chocolate...movies...books...I'm easy to please!

Yup. Let me buy books and I'm so happy. Visited a bookstore this week, with no budget to buy. It almost killed me!

My ideal gift is Jensen Ackles. If you could please send him to me ASAP, I'd appreciate it, Michelle ;)

As far as the perfect gift for a writer, I wouldn't mind a laser jet printer. Or a Macbook Air to travel with. Is that asking for too much????

Writers are the easiest people to shop for, imo, but then my husband feels the same way. "You know what I like." Sort of... but gift cards are a little impersonal for a spouse and the specifics of computer programs or games he might like baffle me.

Gift giving can be tricky! So I made him give me specifics on what he wanted this year.

Perfect gift for a writer: Being willing to beta read her latest project. :D

For me, a laptop would be a perfect gift. Not a realistic one, but perfect.

My hubby knows I like books but not what books so I always give him a wish list to choose from. Makes it easier on him and I know I'll get something I want.

A secluded island, maybe. Or large chunks of time. :)

Books, gift certificates to book stores, notebooks, pens, office supplies... any of that and I'm very very happy. And I like getting socks. Yeah, weird. But I love socks.

Hmm. Books are always a good option for me. Oh, and a Macbook Air would be nice, but I so don't think I'll be getting one :(

My husbands the same way. All my gifts last year came from the "as seen on TV" rack at walmart. Lordy...he does try...;) This year I have only asked for Books and Movies(ie gift cards) just to simplify things. I have found when I get specific over stuff I want he panics and heads to the ASOTV shelves.

Hope you warm up soon!

Ooh I think memory sticks to store/back-up your writing on are a must.
I made up a writer's survival pack for my 100 followers blog prize which included notepad, pen, an indulgent chocolate something, a stimulating coffee something, a fun soothing bath bomb and a face mask for that writer's face that Suzanne Jones blogged about. :O)

A combination of Golden Eagle's and Madeleine's answers: things that would help a writer create her own writing retreat. Hot drinks, candles, wind chimes, fuzzy socks, and time.

Hmm... Mood music... Notebooks... pens... swords and/or daggers...
