52 Books in 52 Weeks Challenge

(Essay Horror Stories contest runs through 11:59 pm tonight! See yesterday's post to enter! Prizes include a signed copy of my book and fun swag including bookmarks, calender magnets, mouse pads, and more!)

Okay, so I toyed with the idea of joining the 100 book challenge for this year. But, I barely made the 52 book challenge last year and only did that because I counted a crit partner's novel (hey...it's not published but is under contract and it WAS a whole book....and a very good one too!)

So, this year I'm going with the 52 books in 52 weeks challenge again. Which I always find more difficult than I expect, because I know I read more than 52 books a year. But, I can't count rereads....I can only count books I've never read before.

I'm off to a great start! It's only Jan 3rd and I already have 1 and a half books read :D

Wanna join the challenge!?

I'll keep a running list of my books on my side bar like I did last year. I hope you join in!

Have you read any good books yet this year? I know we are only 3 days in but, come on.....I know some of you have!! :D

Winner of the Essay Horror Story contest will be posted tomorrow! And as entries are sparce (apparently the people I hang out with over here are a little strange like myself and enjoyed writing essays....though I forgot a few due dates and had a couple horror stories along the way) :D I'll probably just pull a winner from the comments left on that post (scroll down to Saturday's post for deets!) Details on our next game will go up Wednesday!

Wish I had time for a book a week. Good luck!

I haven't entered any book challenges. I didn't realize rereads don't count. That sucks. That's why I buy books, so I can reread them (if they're good). Not that I get a chance to since there's so many new ones I can't wait to read. :)

I'm doing a similar thing: 30 Contemp Books Challenge, where I dive into contemporary YA fiction (haven't read much of it). Super excited for it, and I've already started!

Best of luck with your challenge, Michelle!!

hahaha...I'm off to a slow start. Haven't even started anything yet. I'll be keeping a list in my sidebar, too. Mostly out of curiosity because I've never tracked them before so I have no idea how much I'm reading in a year.

I'm reading this book right now. I think it's called "Torn Apart," about this girl who doesn't know who her father is, and when her mother disappears she doesn't know why.

It's a mystery and I'm totally hooked.

I'm reading No Country for Old Men right now and it is every bit as good as I expected. I only wish I hand't already seen the film.

Good luck! If I did 1 book a week, I wouldn't need to buy any books until a long time from now, but it would be nowhere near to getting me through the year (and only a portion of my current TBR pile would count).

I'm also afraid I don't have time for the book/week challenge. Best of luck to you, my friend!

Silly me, for a moment I thought you were talking about writing that number - must be short stories I thought. Then read more thoroughly and thought, how wonderful, I'll try that!

Oh, maybe I'll try it! I'm getting a kindle this week for my birthday. Not sure, I;ll like it, but I am kind of excited at the thought of being able to download something new any time I want!.

I managed 49 books last year - I think I could do 52. Maybe I will keep a list...Hmmmmmm

I'm not shooting for a particular number of books, but this year I am keeping track of all books and magazines I read on a separate blog page. It should be interesting to review the list at the end of the year.

I just finished Solstice Wood by Patricia McKillip, one of my favorite authors. I love her poetic prose.

After reading 103(!) books last year, I'm ready for a much more reasonable number like 52 :)

This year I've read Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly and I'm almost finished with The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner.

I read "The Cardturner" by Louis Sachar and "Ice Claw" by David Gilman over the weekend.

Hmm...see I have an issue with not being able to count rereads. I mean, you still read them. They're still books. Should totally count! Unless the challenge specifies...then boo. But good luck!

Actually, I totally planned on doing the same thing this year. Reading a book a week. Knowing some weeks are going to be much easier than others. I'm still on my first book of the New Year though.

So glad you are joining in on the challenge again. Good luck with your reading and I'll be following your progress. I started Anna Karenina. Happy Reading.

This is a great challenge! I am reading 110 books this year. I know I can do it, I'm a really fast reader as long as I put in the effort/time. I'm really excited! Hopefully it will dramatically help my writing too!

I'm reading Unearthly right now and loving it so far!
